So it's been a while, a long while, in fact since I've graced you all with my ridiculous stories and rants. I laid in bed last night trying to conjure up something new to write about but found my inspiration this morning lying on the couch. There's been a lot of lying around going on around here lately and it's downright boring. I'm not a lazy person by nature. Quite the opposite, really. I never say 'no' to helping. Even when it is impossible for me to accomplish everything I've committed to, my usual household and child-rearing obligations, I still say 'yes' to one-more-thing. It's a sickness. We often talk about that need to feel busy. Even agree or admit to being that person who is overly busy so we commit to being still, to seeking God's face and sitting at the feet of Jesus. But we don't change! We do double duty to provide meals, we stay up all night baking, or get up extra early to get our quiet time in! We make ourselves more busy by committing to be still because we don't un-commit ourselves from other things! So after this past month or so of running around like a chicken with her head cut off, I'm calling it quits on my tendency to volunteer for everything. I love to be helpful, don't get me wrong, but the things I'm truly passionate about have taken a backseat to my busyness recently. It's a slippery slope! As a woman I feel the need to be involved with everything church and friend related and to have clean sheets and dinner on the table and lunch packed and Kaylee potty trained and saying her abc's, and the list goes on, and on, and on. To the point of exhaustion and being burnt out on things I love! So now as I lay on the couch and revel in my laziness I desperately feel the need to be spending time in God's word and presence! I often read Proverbs 31 and think of how I am lacking compared to this superwoman! I am incredibly guilty of having a Martha mentality! And this time, I'm not just saying it because I'd like for it to happen, I'm going to become more like Mary. So hold me accountable!
Ephesians 4:29 (NIV) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

Un-break me, please?
So maybe this degree of frustration is reserved for me alone, but none-the-less, it's still there.
First, of course, the disclaimer. I love Kay. I, not only love, but enjoy motherhood. As many times as I swore up, down and sideways that I never wanted to get married or have children it agrees with me.
Ok, on to the rant. I'm irritated because as much help as I get with Kay- Frankie and our families, it seems like I am always stuck with the raw end of the deal. They play with Kay until she's fussy then it's my turn. They snuggle Kay until she needs her diaper changed then it's all me. They read until she's nearly asleep and then its my job to get the squirming baby to settle down. What the heck, right? Yea, yea, I'm the mother, thanks, I get it. But come on! Isn't a day full of giggles and kisses proper payment for all the diapers, and fussy times, and fighting bed time?!
And don't give me the, she just wants you, like my husband often does. Oh please! She's a snuggle junkie! But it's true, everyone loves a baby until they cry. Then it's the ol' "Do-Not-Pass-Go" go straight to momma routine.
Now our families are great, and Frank especially, I get a lot of breaks and chances for downtime. And I am very appreciative of all their help! I suppose this is just a plea for balance.
That's all for now, we're headed to Seaworld for the day! Can't wait to spend some great quality time with Kay.... Maybe I'll make Frank change all the diapers today!

No-tivation
I'm at complete and total loss as what to do without Kaylee! My house still isn't clean, I haven't packed any boxes, I haven't grocery shopped, I have zero motivation without my little girl's company. Who let's their kid go to Vegas anyway? I miss our morning snuggles, our standing lunch date, my very small nap-time window to get things accomplished. Here is my chance to get all those things done, but nada. The thought of leaving the house without my shopping buddy is unbearable. Talk about having mommy anxiety! This is ridiculous! Kay comes home in 2 days and I have so much to do! And here I sit, blogging. Ok, ok, I'll try to get motivated. Otherwise, I'll be back shorty.

The Little Lessons
God finds the smallest ways to teach me each day. Last week, Kay's morning nap time came and went without so much as a yawn but then it was like a switch, she was exhausted. I tried every trick in the book, nothing worked, she couldn't calm down. This went on for 2 hours. Story reading, rocking, laying down together, and so on. Back story**After a few days of baby mood swings the week prior, we came to the conclusion she's cutting teeth. ***
Again, I wrote her behavior off as teething. But I was so eager to get my quiet time in during nap time I was determined to stop at nothing. So on, and on Kay struggled until I finally gave it over to God. My prayer was simple, patience for me, and comfort for Kaylee. Less than 2 minutes later Kay was in such a deep sleep I didn't have to sneak out of bed. Immediately I was humbled. All I needed to do was ask. Point taken, thank you Lord. I thought my lessoned ended there, man what a joke. I quickly sat down and read, and read, and read. I wrote, and prayed, and opened my eyes to find little Kaylee toddling around the corner. Perfect timing, His perfect timing. Got it, Lord!
I often find myself learning these little lessons. Like on being submissive. Oh do I struggle to be submissive to Frank. I don't often listen, Frank would readily agree with that statement. But I've found if I let go of the little things, they work out my way anyway! Frank changes his mind, realizes I was right, duh, and we do things my way (or closer to my way) all without an argument! Now, you know me, and my husband, so you know this is a pretty big deal for us to agree without having to duke it out first. But how amazing is God? It's those little times when I hear the Holy Spirit telling me to be submissive and I obey that confirms to me in the biggest ways that I should submit to Frank as head of the household. Luke 16 says, if you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful large ones. So all these little opportunities to be faithful to His will must be practice for the big things. What an amazing God we serve!

A genetic disorder
Sometimes I worry about offending people. You know, like the blog, Facebook posts and comments, pretty much everything I say, almost everything I think. But then my real self kicks me in the face. No, I don't. Reasoning, go.
1. It's my sense of humor. It's for the reaction and any and all comedic relief.
2. I'm mean. I actually prefer the not nice description... She's not mean, just not nice.
3. Someone else, not me, is too nice. And they can't bring themselves to be honest. To these nice people I say, move out the way sister, let me tell you how it goes.
4. You deserve to be made fun of. You probably did something stupid and now I have to laugh at you. Not my fault.
And, 5. My most compelling argument. I was raised this way. I'd say born but my momma is a saint. I blame my dad. The man has NO filter. Here's a little proof. On the way to Texas, a woman a few rows back was smacking her gum. Side note: Dad has super sonic hearing, like when we were kids we were never allowed to have chips when he was home because he could hear us crunching 2 rooms away. It goes without saying but, gum was strictly forbidden. Ok, back... So my dad spent the entire time he was awake turned around in his seat glaring at the woman. Finally we land and my dad had decided he must say something to this lady. Now Troy being the loving person he is not has perfected his method of being insensitive and speaking his mind. For the gum chewers he will tell them they look like a cow chewing cud. Sometimes, he'll shorten it and tell a woman, chewing gum makes your face look fat. Or, just fat. Well in this particular instance, after hearing the lady chomp for the better part of 3 hours, had put my dad in a very sour mood. So while waiting to deplane my dad starts telling this woman how smacking gum is rude, annoying, unpleasant, unsanitary, and on. And on. This poor lady was so shocked the gum fell right out of her mouth, the 2 flight attendants were doubled over trying not to laughing, and me, hand over mouth, praying it would be over soon. Then my dad, as if I wasn't mortified enough, says to me, "Right? Rachel? Isn't that gross?"
Oh. My.
Obviously this is some kind of genetic disorder.
But, I say it all to say, if you don't like what I'm writing, don't read it. Seems pretty easy to me. It is what it is, so don't subject yourself to my ramblings if you're going to be offended.

Sesame Street, my morning misery
Today I'm blogging about Sesame Street. Each day, well, most days I subject myself and expose my child to an hour of furry singing monsters. And while programming for adults has gotten better throughout the years, Sesame Street has suffered.
Gone are the days of the Count, and the Grouch and my absolute favorite character, the Cookie Monster. Replaced by a rapping Murray who has a pet lamb. Eh, he's average. But what about Big Bird and Snuffy? What happened to them? I can appreciate Burt and Ernie coming into the modern ago with claymation, but somethings are better left alone. Plus I thought they were politically incorrect?
And to fill the airtime? Almost 30 minutes of Elmo's world. I like Elmo in small doses. Very small. My other complaint is the kids they have introducing the next segment, they all have speech impediments. Now if I actually listened to whoever says not to let children under the age of 2 watch tv, I might not mind. But I don't, so I take issue. I'm also not impressed when Elmo talks about himself in the 3rd person, why? He's like 40 years old, you would think he would've grown up just a little bit!
The counting, alphabet, whatever ... is great but please, have good grammar and please, please annunciate!
Maybe I'm not in the loop yet about good kid programming. I know it's not Sid the Science kid. I can't make it through the opening song. But there's got to be something I can tolerate for the next few years.... Right? Right?

Per request, another installment.
My favorite crazy person is back on Facebook! After a 6 day hiatus, she's back to spilling her guts about all the drama from her ghetto fabulous life. I really missed the inside scoop into her incredibly shallow and vapid mind. But no worries, she's back full force posting at least 12 times a day, making up for lost time? Oh, and I speak for all your Facebook friends, when I say, we love when you post polls about what you should eat, or what color you should wear, or whatever! I make it my daily mission to respond first!
Moving on. What's up with all these pictures people post on FB of themselves making the same facial expression? Why? I'm guilty of clogging up the newsfeed with pictures of my kid, I know. But in my defense, she's cute. And does new things everyday! The only new thing I see in your pictures is what looks like your eyes popping out of their sockets. Again, why?
Why so much profanity on Facebook? I feel like I should have to click on the, I'm-older-than-18-button, each time I log in. Hasn't anyone told you potential job seekers look you up on social networking sites? I think the FB reputation is catching down with myspace. Or however you want to look at it.
Ok, on to some personal rants...
We recently found out after 2 months of hard prayer time that Frank has been approved to reenlist and cross rate to a Navy Corpsman, no, that's not the morgue. It's basically like a nurse. They check vitals, sometimes do shots, that crap. Whatever. He's excited, I'm excited. I'm happy, he's happy. We're a bunch of happy, excited fools. Next.
Of course there have been some irritating opinions and questions. Alas, this is for you... First with the naysayers. Like if you think my husband is 1. Dumb for joining the military, and serving our country and protecting YOUR lousy freedom. I have little to say, you should be embarrassed for yourself for those comments. B. If you think life is sooooo much better on the outside and he shouldn't reenlist. Oh, have I some thoughts for you. First, do you pay our bills? Second, when would you like to start? Unless you somehow fit into our family dynamic, btw, you don't, then you don't have a say. Period. And Period. In case you aren't aware, when you have responsibilities, like kids, in this economy and job market, you don't give up medical insurance,
job security and benefits to go back to school. (And just so you know, he is taking college courses and working on his degree. And I'm damn proud of him! Excuse my French.) I know it's hard to believe we've somehow managed to make a plan without your input but we have. And finally, the possibility of a move. This is a touchy subject between us, we appreciate the unbiased opinion, and the listening ear, but other than that, please save it for another time. Please note that we will be spending the next several months on our knees praying for His will, we appreciate prayers for guidance.
What else. Hmmmm? Oh! Goody! I remembered the other big irritating thing of the month of May. On the 10th, Frank and I celebrated 2 years of wedded bliss. Well, we survived, close enough. So if you maybe thought, or said out loud, on our wedding day that we wouldn't last until Christmas, or thought we were making a mistake, or covering a mistake with a bigger mistake. I have nothing gracious to say to you, just a big, IN YOUR FACE! Yep, that's all I can say for us. But the glory is owed to God for the miracles He has worked in our lives, spiritually, and matrimonial. God's plan is bigger than us and He has brought us together for His perfect purpose.
In other news, Kay is finally home from Florida. We had a great week together but we missed that Monster like crazy! More soon about transitioning to the toddler bed. This is full night 1.
